It’s been a while……

Friday, March 12th, 2010

It’s been a while since my last post so I thought it about time I shift my arse into gear and got back to writing. It feels like ages since I last sat in this position, but at the same time not a lot seems to have changed in the elapsed time.

I’m still working away, and supporting Arsenal. Things are going much better on that front as it happens. We smashed Porto in the Champions league and have won our last few Premier League games. We’ve got a potentially tricky game away at Hull this Saturday, made even harder as we don’t have our leader Fabregas. That said, if we have any intentions of winning the league then this is a game we simply must win.

Whether we will or not is another matter……

Mice Traps Are My Saviour!

Friday, January 15th, 2010

Having lived in the country for a number of years, I’ve become accustomed to being surrounded by wildlife, but when that wildlife decides to take residence in your very home you have got to draw the line. I have recently been invade by a army of field mice,  and had it not been for my trust mice trap, I think they would still be living here today.

It looks like the snow is finally beginning to clear, thank the Lord! I’ve almost forgotten what grass looks like! I have it on good authority that football is going to be on so I may finally make my long awaited début for the mighty Sarratt FC, but I’m not going to hold my breath.

50 cc motor bike as christmas gift

Sunday, January 3rd, 2010

Who could want anything more for Christmas than a 50 cc motorbike? This is particularly true if your a youngster as in most countries your able to drive scooters from when your 16, where as to drive a car you have to be 18 or older. The other advantage for youngsters is that they are cheap to run as they don’t use much petrol and they are cheap to ensure as they don’t go very fast. All in all everyone’s a winner!

Apart from not getting such a bike, my Christmas was a good one. This was very closely related to the fact that Arsenal have returned to the devastating form that saw them win the Premier league all those years ago.  I’m currently writing this blog post to fill the time till Arsenal kick off with West Ham which is on at the unusual time of 4.15. Anyone know why?

Playing against one of your closest rivals is never easy and it won’t be any different this time round, particularly at Upton Park. However, West Ham are not the team they once were and seem to be sliding towards the Championship, so if Arsenal are serious about winning trophies this year it really is a game they must put to bed. I’m going to put my money on 0-3 Arsenal win, with Rosicky, Nasri and Eduardo getting the goals.

See you on the other side!

Ice Skating bags for Christmas!

Sunday, December 27th, 2009

What a result, Christmas is finally over and I got the pair of ice skating bags which I’ve been asking for for years! They are a great colour and really compliment the rest of my gear.

Other than Christmas was pretty cool. Lots of booze (probably too much if the truth be known) but it wouldn’t be Christmas otherwise. I’ve decided that to counter the weight I’ve recently acquired I’m going to go on a detox for 3 weeks in January. I’m going to give up all booze and may also give up meat, but I’m not 100% sure yet.

I also got another controller for my xbox 360 so I can play with my brother now, which is sweet. I’m still playing Halo 3 but he’s trying to get me onto Call of Duty but we’ll see……………

What a results and double glazed units

Monday, December 14th, 2009

It’s been a while since I’ve said this but I’m very happy with the weekends performances. Arsenal won without playing well, and Tottenham and Manchester Utd both lost! This combined with draws for Man City and Chelski means Arsenal have made up points on all their closest rivals.

I  also had a stonking week on Fantasy Football, making a total of 71 points. The only player who didn’t perform was once again Robbie Keane. I need to take a long hard look at the fixtures but I’m pretty sure he’s going to go. I should never have got a Tottenham player, I was always on hiding to nothing.

I’ve also progressed my search for double glazed units and have asked a total of three local companies to quote for the work. We’ll see what they come back with but due to the recession I’m hoping for some good prices.

Enough banter from me now, I’ve got to get back to work unfortunatly :(

Another weekend and double glazing cost

Monday, December 7th, 2009

Well, it’s Monday so that must mean another weekend has been and come. Worringly there are only 2 full weekends before Christmas and I’ve got rather a large amount of shopping to do. Looks like a last minute job as usual, but it seems to work so why worry about it!

Arsenal returning to winning ways was probably the highlight of the weekend. After losing three on the tro I’d almost forgotten how it feels to win. Shame Fabregas didn’t score the penalty though as he was in my fantasy football team. Still – can’t have it all!

No game again for Gadeside, don’t think we had one scheduled although I’m sure it would have be cancelled anyway due to all the rain we’ve been having. Very wet underfood.

I’ve decided to upgrade the windows of hosue with double glazing, and am just in the process of getting some double glazing costs from local suppliers. I’m hoping it’s not going to cost me too much, and I’ll save a fair bit of money on heating. My current windows are so draftey I pray that there’s no wind on cold nights!

Working From Home

Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009

Working from home is surprisingly beneficial, so much so that I’m surprised I didn’t do it before.  The time saved from travelling alone is enough to make it worth it’s while, and then you’ve got the time saved from not having any of those relativly pointless conversations with collegues.

As long as your house is calm, and you’ve got a good place to work then I believe your home is more conducive to a higher quality of work and more of it. They’re aren’t any of the stress you find in the office, it’s just you, your computer and your work.

The other advantage of course is you get to see your pets whilst you work! I don’t think Black cat or Mrs. Miyagi care much for having me around, but Dolly my 6 month old Vizsla certainly does. She can have company all day long and is able to max out in front of the fire as she is now.

Onto football, Arsenal are playing Manchester City tonight in the Carling Cup. It looks like the only bit of silverware we’re likely to win this year do I’d like to see us when. If Adebayor scores again I’ll be fuming.

Monday Morning

Monday, November 30th, 2009

Not the most exciting day of the week and probably the one that people dread the most.  To make matters worse it’s a dreary Monday morning and hasn’t stopped ranning since Saturday night. On the plus side this meant my football match on Sunday morning was cancelled, but as I’d gone easy on Saturday night it was a bit frustrating in the end.

Not as frustrating as Arsenal v Chelsea however. It’s times like that when you ask yourself  ‘Whats’ the point?’ I’m not particularly knowledgeable about football but I can see where Arsenal are going wrong so it’s incredible that some with as much intelligence and footballing knowledge as Arsene Wenger seems completly blind to the fact that we need to buy some 6ft players who can get nasty when they need to.

It’s Friday!

Friday, November 27th, 2009

At last. At times it felt like it would never happen but it’s no official – it’s Friday!

Although I’ve not got a great deal planned I feel particularly excited about this weekend. I’ve been to the supermarket and stocked up beer, wine, whisky and smocked haddock so hopefully will only have to leave the house on social occasions.

I think tonight is going to be a fairly chilled one. I’ve got a few chores to sort out once I get home, but after that the evenings mine. I’ll probably spend it washing Prison Break and chilling out with my girlfriend Fiona.

Moving on to Saturday. I’ve got a fair amount of work to do in the morning, and have got no real plans for the afternoon. I plan on spending sometime in the evening playing computers games, but I’m not sure whether it will be Football Manager 2010 or Halo ODST. Both very got games in their own right, but there’s only a certain amount of time available.

Sunday is football in the morning and then Fiona’s sisters engagement party. It starts at 1 and I really hope it’s finished by 4 so I can watch Arsenal v Chelsea. I’m not really sure who I thinks going to win that. My heart says Arsenal but my brain Chelsea. I can see Anelka bagging a few against his old clubs, it always happens!

What ever your doing this weekend enjoy!

Annoying Business Phrases

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

You know the ones I’m talking about, the ones that make  you cringe as soon as their said. I don’t know what it is about offices but they breed stupid phrases. Maybe it’s because they are full of people with very little else to do except thing them up!

Anywhere, I thought I’d start a list of my the most annoying phrases. There are so many that I doubt I’ll be able to think of them all now, but I’ll start this blog post and add to it as I think of more and more.

  1. ‘It’s worth asking the question’ It’s said with such superiority. For some reason people who make this statement think they have reason to be smug about clever use of language. It’s not. Stop it
  2. To be continued…….

Rain, Rain Go Away

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

Another day and even more rain! It made for a very wet dog walk this morning, that neither I or Dolly (my Vizsla) enjoyed  much at all. My trousers were soaked through as were my old trainers, bring on Christmas and hopefully a new pair of wellingtons!

I suppose I can think myself lucky that I don’t live in Cumbria. I’ve heard a number of stories on the news this morning about people’s homes getting flooded and they are unlikely to be habitable for over a year! Then there are other people who live near bridges that have either collapsed or are on the verge of. This has meant that people are cut off from their friends, family and work (not such a s bad thing I know!)

The rain also caused my football match on Sunday to be cancelled, which turned out to be a blessing in disguise due to some overindulgence on Saturday night. Still, I would have liked to play particularly as my fitness levels have dropped to non-existent of late.  I keep planning ongoing for early morning runs, but it’s always the rain that puts me off!
